Lose Weight With Chitosan
Chitosan is a supplement that can help you lose weight by preventing the bodys absorption of fat. Chitosan can also lower cholesterol, which helps protect you against heart disease, and it is a good antacid. Chitosan is derived from chitin, a substance in the exoskeletons of shellfish such as shrimp and crabs. It is similar to fiber in that it is used by the body, but is not digestible. In passing through the digestive tract, it is capable of absorbing four to six times its weight in fat before it has a chance to be metabolized. While chitosan can be used to "kick-start" a diet, long-term use is not recommended because of its side effects: it will absorb fat-soluble vitamins, such as A, D, E, and K, as well as some minerals and essential fatty acids. One of the other benefits of chitosan is that is capable of lowering total blood cholesterol levels and raising levels of HDL, the good cholesterol. Chitosan also has an effect on the action of the bacteria in the intestines and works as an excellent antacid. If you decide to take chitosan, limit your intake to no more than two weeks, except on the advice of a physician, and be sure and drink eight ounces of liquid each time you take a tablet or pill. Avoid it altogether if you have an allergy to shellfish, and it should not be taken by pregnant or nursing women, or by children.
