Niacinamide is a Brain-Booster

Are you forgetful?  Are you worried about losing brainpower?  Niacinamide, a B vitamin also known as niacin and nicotinic acid, is a known memory enhancer and is helpful in the treatment of mental illnesses.  It also assists the function of the nervous system, helps produce hydrochloric acid for digestion, and is involved in the secretion of bile and stomach fluids.  Niacinamide lowers cholesterol and is important for proper circulation and the metabolism of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins.

Other benefits of niacinamide are that it is involved in the synthesis of sex hormones, is needed for healthy skin, and is also used to treat inner ear problems.  A deficiency of this vitamin can cause such symptoms as canker sores, indigestion, loss of appetite, diarrhea, and halitosis.  It may also cause dementia, depression, dizziness, fatigue, muscular weakness, and skin problems.

Sources of niacinamide are beef liver, brewers yeast, various vegetables, wheat germ, corn flour, and whole wheat.  It is also found in dairy products, fish, pork, and numerous herbs.  It can be purchased as a separate supplement or as part of the B vitamin complex.  You can take 100 milligrams daily, but it often causes a flush, or tingling skin, and sometimes a red rash, which feels like sunburn and is particularly unpleasant if you are exposed to the sun so, cover up.  Use this supplement with caution if you are pregnant, suffer from liver or gallbladder problems, or have an ulcer.  However, make sure you get sufficient amounts of it.
