Pre-natal Vitamins Are Vital for Babys Good Health
If you are pregnant, you are probably worrying about everything you eat and every pill you take and the effect it will have on your unborn child. Do you really have to take pre-natal vitamins to ensure that you are supplying all of your babys needs? Since our food is grown in nutrient-depleted soil, and nutrients are lost in food storage, processing, and cooking, and because you might be battling nausea and eating on the run, you cant be sure you are supplying the essential nutrients for your baby unless you take pre-natal vitamins. Check your pre-natal vitamins to make you have enough, but not more than needed, of the key ingredients. You need vitamin A but shouldnt have more than 4,000 or 5000 IU, and beta-carotene is best. You need 800 to 1000 mcg (one milligram) of folic acid, which helps prevent spinal bifida among other things, and you shouldnt have more than 400 IU of vitamin D. You need 200 to 300 milligrams of calcium more if your diet is low in it and must avoid taking calcium and magnesium supplements within two hours of taking iron, since both interfere with irons absorption. Make sure you take all the B vitamins as well as vitamin C, and you need both copper and zinc if you are taking iron. Expect other important elements to be included in your pre-natal vitamins, and make every effort to eat healthy, balanced meals to ensure that you give your baby a good start.
